We Are All Connected is an innovative digital media project designed to help bridge the urban-rural divide and build assets in communities with a host of historical and present day challenges. EVC youth and adult documentary video artist from New York City collaborate with Appalachian youth and adults in Eastern Tennessee to find shared values and create a documentary and website exploring issues that hit close to home in both urban and rural communities. Issues explored include the opioid addiction crisis, chronic poverty, and the digital divide. Through a summer camp in Tennessee and continued collaboration remotely during the fall, the youth learn how much they have in common and how interconnected their communities really are. Both communities end off with a video that is a powerful tool to foster dialogue locally and visibility nationally on critical issues. And the Appalachian team receives critical training, curricula, and national networks of resources that stay in their community.
